Chalet Nordend
Old larch outside, one enormous warm room inside.
Tour coming soon
We film each house room by room. Chalet Nordend is in the schedule — until then, the photographs are all honest.
The Matterhorn, from bed
Four of the five bedrooms face it. So does the bath.
Ski-in to the door
The Sunnegga run ends forty metres above the boot room.
A proper fire
Open hearth, two metres wide, wood delivered and stacked every morning.
Céline's family took apart a 1760s barn in Törbel, trucked it down the valley and rebuilt the shell of it here. From the lane it looks like it has always been in Zermatt. Then you open the door and the entire ground floor is one room, twelve metres long, with a two-metre hearth at one end and glass at the other.
It sleeps ten without ever feeling like a hostel, mostly because the bedrooms are spread across three floors and four of them have their own view of the mountain. The sauna is in the basement next to the boot room, which is the correct place for a sauna.
Zermatt is car-free. The electric taxi from the station takes six minutes and Céline books it for you.

“The wood on the outside of this chalet is 260 years old and came from a barn in Törbel. Everything inside it is new. That contrast is the house.”
