Refugio Paine
A glass box on a moraine, facing the towers.
Tour coming soon
We film each house room by room. Refugio Paine is in the schedule — until then, the photographs are all honest.
The towers, framed
The whole western wall is glass and points at Las Torres. It is not subtle and it does not need to be.
Guided, if you want
Camila guides the base trek herself. Two days' notice.
Engineered for the wind
Laminated glass, steel frame, sunk into the moraine. It does not move.
A steel-framed glass box, half-sunk into a glacial moraine so the wind goes over it rather than into it, with the entire western elevation pointed at the Torres del Paine massif.
The engineering is the hidden part of the design. Patagonian wind regularly hits 120 km/h here and the house does not move, creak or whistle. What you get instead is total quiet and an unobstructed view of one of the more dramatic pieces of rock on the planet.
Inside it is warm and small — two bedrooms, a wood stove, a hot tub on the lee side. Camila guides the base-of-the-towers trek herself if you give her two days' notice, and she is very good at it.

“The wind here can reach 120 km/h. The house is engineered for it, and on those days the view is the best it gets.”
