Riad Qasbah
Nine metres of silence behind a door in the medina.
Tour coming soon
We film each house room by room. Riad Qasbah is in the schedule — until then, the photographs are all honest.
A courtyard that cools the house
Nine metres of open sky, a fountain, and shade all day. The temperature drop when you step inside is the point.
Hand-cut zellige
Not printed tile. Cut and set by hand over four months, and worth your attention.
Breakfast on the roof
Served at eight, with the Atlas visible behind the Koutoubia on a clear morning.
From the lane you would never find it, which is the whole tradition: a plain wall, a studded door, and then nine metres of open courtyard with a fountain in it and three floors of rooms looking in.
The zellige work around the courtyard was cut and set by hand by two craftsmen from Fès. The plunge pool is small, cold and exactly what you want at three in the afternoon. The roof terrace catches the call to prayer from four directions at once, which is one of the better things that can happen to you.
Jemaa el-Fnaa is eleven minutes on foot, and Hicham will send someone to walk you the first time so that you learn the turns.

“The zellige in the courtyard took two craftsmen from Fès four months. Please do look closely at it.”
