Ridge Cabin
Blackened cedar, one long window, and the fog coming in.
Tour coming soon
We film each house room by room. Ridge Cabin is in the schedule — until then, the photographs are all honest.
Two people, no more
Forty square metres, built for exactly two. It does not pretend otherwise.
Above the fog line
Most mornings the marine layer sits below the deck and you are looking down onto cloud.
Outdoor bath
Cast iron, on the deck, plumbed hot. Best used at about six in the morning.
One room, forty square metres, on a ridge above the Big Sur coast. Shou sugi ban cedar outside, plywood and steel inside, and a single eight-metre window on the western wall that does everything.
There is a wood stove, a kitchenette, a record player and about ninety records. There is no television, no wifi and, honestly, very little phone signal. People book this cabin specifically for that.
The cast-iron tub on the deck is plumbed with hot water and positioned so that you are looking straight out at the Pacific, or more often at the top of the fog. The road in is unpaved for the last kilometre and a half and you will want a car with some clearance.

“There is no television and the phone signal is one bar on a good day. That is the product, not a shortcoming.”
